@Burjor: because it will put the utility supplier out of business. its a global predicament! political parties have their workers on the payroll of these institutions at every level in return of their loyalty. KESC is replete with workers from prominent political parties. This is the reason govt's don't allow or discourage use of alternative energy.

Are Photo Voltaic Panels allowed, by private house owners to generate electricity in Karachi? On the one hand the government says it wishes to generate electricity, on the other hand Karachi Electric laws explicitly mention that only Karachi Electric will supply electric power to Karachi. i.e. putting up of Photo Voltaic Panels are illigal in Karachi as per Karachi Electric laws. Are the laws not contradictory, can any reader who knows please clarify, what exactly is the status quo laws that govern installing P.V. panels on the roof of private residential houses in Karachi. In some parts of the world private home owners generate more electricity than they consume and sell the extra power that is produced back to the utility companies, thereby contributing to energy supply and earning. Why do we not have laws that make sense???.
