10-man PAF defeat KRL in PPFL

KARACHI: PAF defeated defending champions KRL 2-1 in their Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) encounter to take the top spot in the league tournament at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad on Sunday.

The Peshawar-based club were reduced to 10 men in the early parts of the match as their captain, Muhammad Atif, was sent off following a red-card for tackling a KRL player.

Taking advantage of the situation, KRL’s Abdul Samad scored the opening goal of the match in the 20th minute to give his side a 1-0 lead at the interval.

However, PAF equalised through Irfan Ali’s goal in the 47th minute and Mansoor Khan scored the winner just a minute later.

“The players really impressed their opponents,” PAF manager Arshad Khan told The Express Tribune. “We were up against the best side in the country. They have the best players and the best coaches; I can’t believe that we defeated them. This was a very tough match for us, playing with just a 10-man side.”

Arshad said that his team’s next target will be to gain at least a six-point advantage by winning their following two matches.

“We’ll be aiming to defeat Army and KRL in our next two matches. It’s crucial to take a six-point lead in order to be on a safe spot in the competition,” added the manager.

With the win, PAF have 20 points while Army is in second position with 19 and KPT stand third with 17.

In other matches, NBP played a goalless draw with Baloch FC at the Faisal Town Stadium in Lahore, while PIA and Afghan FC also drew blanks in their match.
