Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Dolphins lose yet again despite Mir Hamza’s 10 for

NBP claim six-wicket win on final day

News Desk November 09, 2014

KARACHI: Set a target of just 134, NBP strolled to a six-wicket win against the Karachi Dolphins as Umer Waheed and Fawad Alam made 65 and 44 respectively to guide the visitors home at the National Stadium of Karachi on day four of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold’s fifth round.

NBP had started the day on 19-1 and were able to make the remaining 115 runs without much incident, despite Mir Hamza claiming three wickets to add to his 7-73 in the first innings to finish with a 10-for in the match.

The high-scoring match between Multan Tigers and UBL invariably ended in a draw as Tigers ended the final day at 145-4 in their second innings after the duo had made 403 and 567-4 in their first innings respectively.

Meanwhile, an incredible second-innings performance from Peshawar Panthers was not enough as ZTBL ran out eventual four-wicket winners. Panthers had conceded a 285-run lead in the first innings but rallied to make 445 in their second and ran ZTBL close as both Azam Khan and Afaq Ahmed took three wickets each. However, to their credit, ZTBL played some extremely attacking cricket in their final innings, making 141 in just 19.2 overs to ensure that the match didn’t end in a draw.

Some superb bowling from SNGL helped them record a comfortable nine-wicket win over Rawalpindi Rams after dismissing the hosts for 97 in their second innings and ending a match that was affected by rain with 69-1 in just 12.1 overs.

Port Qasim had the weather to thank as they drew their match against the Lahore Lions, finishing the day on 195-2, 107 runs behind Lions after following on.

The rain-hit match between Islamabad Leopards and Wapda also ended in a draw.

Silver edition

All four matches of the silver edition that went into the final day ended as draws, largely thanks to the poor weather that had dominated the round. Lahore Eagles v Quetta Bears, PTV v KRL, Sialkot Stallions v Bahawalpur Stags and Faisalabad Wolves v Abbottabad Falcons were the matches that failed to have a result.
