LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Friday voiced strong reservations regarding the appointment of eight additional judges at Lahore High Court. Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi, Qazi Muhammad Amin, Khalid Mehmood Malik, Mushtaq Ahmed, Masood Abid Naqvi, Shahid Kareem, Mirza Waqas Rauf and Muhammad Iqbal were sworn in as additional judges by Chief Justice Khwaja Imtiaz. This brought the total number of judges to 57. LHCBA president Shafqat Mehmood Chohan told reporters that the association’s leaders had not attended the oath taking ceremony as they had strong reservations regarding the appointments. Chohan said the association would formulate a strategy regarding the matter if its grievances were not addressed. Chohan said the recommendations of the association regarding the appointments had been ignored. He said this was intolerable and had widened the gulf between the lawyers and the courts.
