Twin girls die of dog bite wounds in Multan

They were rescued from a canal after they were left there in a bag.

MULTAN: Twin infants barely a few hours old brought to Nishtar Medical Hospital on Sunday after they were believed to have been abandoned beside a canal died of dog bite wounds on Wednesday.

Doctors told newsmen that the man who had rescued them had not informed them that the infants had been bitten by dogs.

On November 2, a pair of infant twins was rescued from Naubahaar canal.

The canal carries waste from the city to Dunyapur.

Witnesses said they had seen a couple leave the girls beside the canal. They said they had left on a motorbike.

They said the woman was veiled and the man supported a beard and appeared to have been around 45-years-old.

They had left the girls in the canal in a big black which Rescue 1122.  After the couple left, some dogs jumped in the water after it.

A passerby who had watched the scene unfold jumped into the canal and pelted stones at the dogs. He managed to retrieve the bag.

Inside, he found a few kilos of meat and two infants.

Nishtar Hospital Emergency Director Pervez Haider had told The Express Tribune on Monday that the twins had been born three or fours hours before the incident.

He said they had swallowed some water but their condition had been stabilised by doctors when they were brought to the hospital.

He said the twins were bathed and put in incubators.

He said one of the twins died had on Tuesday due to pneumonia and infection caused by a dog bite.

He said her twin had died early on Wednesday morning.

The twins were buried after an autopsy.
