LAHORE: The chief secretary has asked the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) director general (DG) to explain why some public parks were being used for holding functions. Advocate Pervez Hassan had written to the chief secretary that public parks, including Race Course Park, were being used for catering services, an official aware of the complaint told The Express Tribune. Hassan said in the application that the Chamber of Commerce and Industries had arranged a gathering at Race Course Park on the eve of its annual elections on September 22 and 23. He said this was misuse of public space. He said holding functions in parks resulted in their degradation. DG Mian Shakeel Ahmad denied that public parks were being allowed to hold private functions, including wedding ceremonies. However, he said the LCCI had been allowed to host the receptions in the park for more than a decade.
