Eighty-seven of the people who were injured in Sunday’s suicide bombing at Wagah Border were under treatment at several city hospitals on Monday.
Of the 17 patients at Ghurki Hospital, nine were at intensive care unit (ICU).
Forty-seven patients were admitted to Services Hospital, 12 to Lahore General Hospital, eight to Mayo Hospital, three to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and one patient was at Shalamar Hospital.
Of the 87 patients, 22 were said to be in critical condition.
“Those who were brought with minor injuries have been discharged,” a Ghurki Hospital administrator said.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the bombing victims at Lahore General Hospital. He directed the hospital administration to utilise all available resources to treat the patients.
Sharif said those responsible for the carnage would be brought to book. He said the nation was united against terrorism.
He said the government was committed to ridding the country of terrorism.
The chief minister said the tragedy had claimed too many precious lives. “The incident should be strongly condemned by all. We are all grieved,” he said.
“Those who play with the innocent lives deserve no mercy. They will be dealt with strictly. The present situation demands unity and harmony from us. Collective efforts are the best way to fight terrorism.”
Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique said Health Department had declared an ‘emergency’ at public hospitals to provide medical care to the bombing victims. He said the government had also made arrangements to send bodies to the heirs.
Separately, a delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) office-bearers visited Services Hospital and inquired after the health of the injured.
