SUKKUR: Hundreds of Jatoi clansmen staged a demonstration and sit-in at the Sukkur Bypass on Tuesday to protest the murder of Mukhtiar Ali Jatoi.

The protesters, led by Nazul Jatoi, Abdul Rehman Jatoi and others, burnt tyres and blocked the road, suspending traffic. They shouted slogans against the police, who they said had ‘failed’ to protect them.

Mukhtiar Ali Jatoi, a resident of Bachal Shah Miani, was gunned down by two unidentified armed men on Monday night. Mukthiar was going home on a motorcycle when the attackers opened fire on him near Nishat Cinema.

His body was moved to Civil Hospital, Sukkur for an autopsy and then handed over to family.

A-section police Sukkur registered an FIR against five Mirani clansmen, including Ashfaq, Babar, Arif alias Kaloo, Sajjad and Zafar, on the complaint of the deceased’s father, Nazul Jatoi. However, no arrests were made.

Talking to the reporters, Nazul Jatoi claimed that the Mirani tribe was behind the murder of his son.

He said that the Mirani and Jatoi tribes have had a longstanding feud but four months ago, their differences were reconciled through a tribal council.

“We decided to stop fighting and obey the jirga’s verdict but the Mirani men have renewed our enmity by killing my son,” Nazul Jatoi said angrily.
