BAHAWALPUR: A literacy revolution is needed in the country, not political unrest, Cooperatives Minister Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar said on Thursday. He was addressing students at a ceremony to distribute laptops at the Government Post Graduate College for Boys, Bahawalpur. Under the Chief Minister’s Laptop Scheme, 2,905 laptops have been distributed among students in Bahawalpur district in the first phase. “The government is trying to provide basic training in information technology to the youth and providing them education so that they can earn a decent livelihood,” he said, adding that it was impossible to prosper without education. “Our youth are our most valuable asset and represent our future. Teachers should pay their full attention to building their character and educating them,” he said. Channar said that the government attached great importance to education. “Laptops are a gift from the government to the brightest students,” he said. The minister said that the government was also sending bright students to study abroad. He said addressing problems of students was a priority of the government. He said no nation could prosper or progress without an educated and skilled workforce. He said he was confident that various government programmes for promotion of education would deliver results in a few months. He said the government was responsive to all the needs of the students.

Literacy Revolution cannot be brought up by distributing laptops among students. This is equal to bribing them to vote PMLN in the future. Furthermore the billions spent in this project could have been utilized to improve education standards of universities and schools throughout Punjab. Many schools in Punjab are out of order. Many dont have washrooms chalk boards and furniture. Teacher are not skilled and many dont come to teach.Instead of wasting money on laptops spend money on these issues. These are the things that can bring about a revolution.Apart from that PMLN regularly criticizes PTI for unrest on such platforms. They should know that PTI has contributed more to Literacy Revolution by providing basic facilities to school and focusing on eradication of corruption from the education department.Education is now in English in KPK and a modernised syllabus is underway.Has PMLN done anything comparable to that?
