Law and order: Kidnapping bid foiled at court

LAHORE:

A kidnapping bid was foiled at the Lahore High Court on Wednesday.

Rubina, a resident of Okara, was recovered from her in-laws’ house and presented in court. She said she wanted to live with her parents. She said her brothers-in-law had forced her to live with them. Police said her brothers-in-law and some other men tried to kidnap her. Policemen intervened and saved her.

SHO told not to harass woman:

An additional district and sessions court directed the Baghbanpura SHO not to harass a woman, who had married without family’s consent.

Shabnam Sharif said that one of her brothers wanted her to marry one of his in-laws.

“My brother used to court a girl in our village. A panchayat ordered that she be married to my brother. They asked my family to give my hand in marriage to that girl’s brother,” she said. “My brothers tried to force me to marry the person according to the panchayat’s decision.

I refused and instead married Sajid Hussain. My brothers then started threatening me with dire consequences if I did not obtain a divorce from my husband.

Last week, they forced their way into my house and beat me up.

They also shaved my hair and eyebrows,” she said.

Shabnam said that her brothers had bribed police, who were now harassing her.
