FAISALABAD:

Police said on Wednesday that a newly-married traffic warden had committed suicide in Chiniot area.

They said Amjad Ali, a resident of Thattha village, was posted at Clock Tower Circle and had gotten married 10 days ago.  Police said he had fallen unconscious after swallowing poison at his house. They said he had been taken to the district headquarters hospital and was later shifted to Allied Hospital Faisalabad where he died.

Sagheer Anwar, a cousin of the deceased, said Ali had returned home after finishing his duty to have dinner with his family. He said he had later gone to his room where his wife was waiting for him. Anwar said his wife had called his relatives to their room as he appeared to be sick.

He said he had vomited a few times before falling unconscious in their presence.  Anwar said he was taken to a hospital in Chiniot and was later shifted to Allied Hospital where he died. He said he was the sole breadwinner of the family and had been looking after his mother and five sisters.  Anwar said Ali’s relatives had tried to speak to him in vain when they realised that he was depressed. He said they did not suspect foul play.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, the Chiniot Saddar station house officer said the body of the deceased had been handed over to his family.
