QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch on Wednesday said the administration near Balochistan's coastal areas  is closely monitoring Cyclone Nilofar's approach and have implemented all preventive and precautionary measures to provide relief to those who can be affected.

Addressing a news conference at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) office in Quetta on Wednesday, the chief minister said deputy commissioners have been tasked to ensure precautionary measures from Jewani to Sonmiani-Baloch coast.

“It is likely that heavy showers accompanied with thunderstorm will hit the coastal region any time soon,” he said. “I have asked the district commissioners of Gwadar and Lasbela for relief to those living near the coast.”

The chief minister added that the local administration had managed to evacuated people from villages, which are said to be vulnerable.

“It has been predicted that cyclone may move towards north. However, heavy showers and thunderstorm is predicted,” said the chief minister. “There might be a emergency situation but we are adopting all necessary steps to protect the life and property of the people.”

The administration is trying to protect the trawlers and fishing boats, as they often suffer huge losses when such tropical cyclone hit coastal region, he added.
