ISLAMABAD: Pakistan won seat as member of the Administrative Council of the International Telecommunication Union in a closely contested election held on Monday during the ITU plenipotentiary conference which is under way at Busan, in South Korea. According to a press statement issued by the IT ministry, Pakistan secured 101, out of a total of 168 votes. The victory has secured a berth for Pakistan in the administrative, management and policymaking body of the telecommunication agency. Pakistan had lost its position in the previous plenipotentiary, held in 2010 due to lack of focus. The council is the premier board of the global telecom policymaking body of the UN with mandate to consider broad global policy issues in the field of ICTs and telecommunications.
