With his 26th Test century, Younis surpassed Inzamamul Haq’s 25 on day four of the first Test at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Pakistan need just six wickets to claim the win against Australia.
Speaking to the media in Dubai, Younis said his friends told him to join the team as it needs him more than ever.
“I arrived in the city only a few days back but my trainers worked hard on me which further motivated me to play for my team,” he added.
Speaking about his partnership with opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad, Younis said he told the young player to play his best as you never know if you will get this chance again.
“I have been dropped from the national team many times and for long duration; I told Shehzad to learn from my experience and use the given opportunity well,” he explained, adding that he advised Shehzad to maintain his performance to keep playing for the team.
“It was a simple advice and we all saw how well he played,” he stated.
Upbeat about winning against Australia, Younis said the victory will feel good because Australia is a top-class team.
