KARACHI: There are a number of water supply schemes initiated by the government but a lack of ownership hinders their progress, said Sindh local government director-general Faheem Junejo on Wednesday. He was speaking at the last session organised by the Health and Nutrition Development Society (Hands) to mark the hand-washing week. Community involvement can strengthen the efforts of the government to facilitate citizens in general, he said. Unicef Sindh programme officer Mubashira Irum referred to a project under which health and hygiene kits were distributed among government schools in 10 different districts. She said the scheme will also bring about behavioural changes among the students and will also help improve the public attitude towards practices related to hygiene. Hands representative Ghulam Mustafa and other community workers said there was an urgent need to involve people.
