City Police Officer (CPO) Sohail Habib Tajik on Monday said a catalogue of criminal records in the district would be established for better crime management.
Talking to The Express Tribune, the CPO said there were more than 6,500 criminals in district Faisalabad who were roaming free after securing bails approved by courts.
He said a catalogue of their record would have criminal histories along with photographs, finger prints, thumb impressions and family backgrounds. He said a special cell had been established to update the catalogue regularly. He said action would be taken against those found violating terms of their bails.
The CPO said as many as 60,000 people were being held at various jails in the Punjab. He said most of them returned to a life of crime after they were released.
He said all station house officers had been directed to provide information regarding criminal records to the cell. He said the data would be incorporated in the catalogue and it would be accessible to the police to monitor activities of criminals after they were released.
