Unanimous resolution: Senators praise Malala’s Nobel

ISLAMABAD:

The Senate on Friday unanimously passed a resolution felicitating Malala Yousufzai on receiving the Nobel Peace Prize and praised her commitment to promoting peace and education. The joint resolution was tabled by Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Haji Mohammad Adeel.

The resolution states that the senators on behalf of the upper house as well on behalf of the entire nation congratulate Malala Yousufzai for her services and sacrifices for a good cause.

Earlier, on a point of order, PPP Senator Babar Awan criticised the government on its ‘pathetic approach’ to Indian hostilities along the Line of Control and Working Boundary recently. “I don’t see any condemnation of this aggression by the prime minister or defence minister, and India and its prime minister and ministers have been continuously issuing threats to Pakistan of serious action,” said Awan. He criticised the prime minister for failing to visit the shelled areas along the LoC.

Leader of the house Raja Zafarul Haq remarked that it was incorrect to say the government has ‘done nothing’ to respond to Indian aggression. “It was Pakistan’s effective response which forced the other side to reduce hostilities in the last two to three days,” he said.

He added that the house advisory committee has decided to debate the issue in the house. The senators also offered Fateha for those killed during the shelling.

Additionally, the house strongly objected to the appointments of two technical engineers – Irshad Ghani and Mamoon Ur Rashid – against the posts of Sales and Marketing Managers in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

Such ‘illogical policies’ within the national airways could be the cause of deterioration within the national airline, the senators said.

MQM Senator Babar Khan Ghauri questioned how an engineer could serve as a marketing and sales manager, adding that mismanagement and bad governance in PIA has become a routine matter.

State minster for parliamentary affairs Aftab Sheikh said that the appointments were the prerogative of PIA’s board of directors. ANP senator Ilayas Bilour said PIA has limited international flights to Peshawar to only one flight per week, while previously it operated two flights daily.

A fitting slap in the face of Malala-haters.Hope lawmakers look at some of the ridiculous laws in Pakistani constitution and throw them out.

I'm glad we did not jump into every tit for tat going in the world, from Mars missions to Arms race. After all, there is tons of work need to be done for our desperate masses in-dire-need of basic health & economic facilities before we even think of any such ventures. Spreading Roads to far fetched & remote areas to transport basic life necessaries should be among the top priorities not new bridges in crowded cities.
