The Sindh High Court (SHC) sought comments on Friday from the provincial home secretary and Karachi Central Prison superintendent on the petition of two kidnapping case convicts who are seeking release on parole.
Two brothers, Muhammad Shahid and Muhammad Zahid, were sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping a trader.
The attorney for the petitioners said that his clients were eligible for release on parole as they have undergone 10 years of imprisonment and gotten 15-year remissions for behaving well in the penitentiary. He said that they filed an application with the ATC requesting it to order their release on parole. However, he added, the ATC referred the matter to the home secretary.
The attorney said that when the home secretary was approached, he rejected their request contending that they have not served required period of time. He argued that they were eligible to be released.
