The result was not much different last year with only 235 of the 11,406 candidates passing the examination.
Out of over 13,170 candidates, only 439 were declared successful in the CSS competitive written examinations 2014 the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) announced on Wednesday.
A total of 24,640 candidates applied for the examinations but only 13,170 appeared in the test. Males continued to dominate in the list of successful documents as 294 men as opposed to 145 women cleared the test.
Candidates who have passed the written examination will be intimated for scheduled medical examination, psychological assessment and viva voce.
Reform provisions
To improve the standards of the CSS exam, the FPSC has proposed a set of reforms to ease burden on the commission.
The proposal prepared by a committee comprising senior bureaucrats and experts advocates that a ‘screen out’ process on the pattern of army recruitment would ensure that only promising candidates undertake the final examination.
According to an FPSC official, the proposal was forwarded to the prime minister for approval earlier this month and the proposal is on the agenda next cabinet meeting.
Another official stressed the screen-out test will not only helpful for FPSC but also for students who await the final result for a year or more. “Besides, many candidates lose interest when they fail in one or more subjects, especially in English, when they first appear, taking the second and third chances casually,” he added.
Besides, some officials hinted that it will also ease the workload of examination staff, reduce paper checking time and curb expenses of circulating answer sheets and finalising results.
