Lethal toys: Young boy injured as ball bomb explodes

A 10-year-old boy was injured in a low-intensity blast in Taiser Town on Wednesday

A 10-year-old boy was injured in a low-intensity blast in Taiser Town's Sector 50-B on Wednesday.


The blast, which occurred due to the explosion of a ball bomb, caused panic in the neighbourhood. Following the explosion, a large contingent of police and rescue workers of various welfare associations reached the site.


The volunteers shifted the victim to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment, while the police officials collected the evidence. Police cordoned off the area and started searching for clues, during which they found another ball bomb from the garbage.


The police later summoned the bomb disposal squad to the site. Surjani police post incharge Ghazzan Zada said that the injured child, identified as Ismail, son of Alauddin, had found the ball from the garbage, adding that as he was playing with it when it exploded and injured him.


The officer added that unidentified persons had likely dumped the ball bombs in the garbage. The second ball bomb was later defused by the bomb disposal squad experts.
