The Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Malala Yousafzai was not only celebrated in Pakistan, but also across the border in Afghanistan.
In a joint declaration passed after a meeting in Kabul, Afghan intellectuals and civil society organisations celebrated Malala and Kailash Satyarthi’s Nobel victories. The participants wished both laureates further success.
“People of Afghanistan consider the creation of proper conditions for education and growth as fundamental for society and human rights,” the declaration read. “The Afghan people wholeheartedly thank the Nobel Academy for giving the 2014 peace awards to Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi. They pointed out Afghanistan had been ravaged by war and human rights violations for decades. “We call on international community to help us end the conflict.”
