FAISALABAD:

A young man threw acid on another in Madina Town on Sunday.

Madina Town SHO Rana Muhammad Atif told The Express Tribune that Muhammad Akbar*, 17, was a student at a local seminary. “Saif*, 17, of the same locality wanted to be friends with Akbar, who ignored him. Saif threw acid on Akbar’s face when he was on his way to the madrassa early on Sunday,” Atif said.

“Akbar suffered burns to his eyes and lips. He was taken to Allied Hospital. Saif fled and has not been caught,” the SHO said. Dr Abdul Rauf, at the emergency ward of Allied Hospital, said Akbar’s lips and one of his eyes had been affected. “We are trying to save his eye,” he said.

Atif said that Akbar’s family had not lodged a complaint. “Therefore, no case has been registered so far,” he said. “The police will take action against the suspect once a complaint is received,” the SHO said.

The Government really needs to better regulate the sale and movement of these dangerous acids.
