Five men were shot dead and one was injured in a deadly assault by rivals on Saturday over old enmity in Chiniot.
According to Muhammad Wala police, the six were returning from Chiniot sessions court after attending a hearing.
Station House Officer Muhammad Ashraf told The Express Tribune that the attack occurred near Kalri at Jhang-Sargodha Road.
“The deceased, all residents of Bhero village, were stopped by six men, who opened fire on them. Zulfiqar Ali, Ghulam Fareed, Qaisar, Muhammad Nawaz, car-driver Kaka and another man, who has not been identified yet, received serious bullet injuries.
Two of them died on the spot and three succumbed to their injuries at a hospital,” Ashraf said.
He said that the attackers had fled from the scene.
Police took the bodies and injured to the hospital.
Chiniot District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Qadir Qamar has formed two special teams to investigate the attack.
Police sealed the roads in the area following the attack and erected pickets to arrest the attackers. However, no arrests have been made so far.
Ashraf said that the bodies had been taken to a rural health centre for post mortem.
He said that a case would be registered after the families of the deceased lodged a complaint.
Ashraf said that the police teams were conducting raids and the attackers would be arrested within 48 hours.
He said that the murders were the result of old enmity between the deceased and another group from the same area.
