Road crash in Uch Sharif claims 10 lives

43 others injured – some of them critically

MULTAN: At least 10 people were killed and 43 injured – some of them critically – when a Mansehra-bound passengers’ bus rammed into a truck in Uch Sharif late Thursday night.

The accident happened when the bus driver tried to overtake another passenger coach and collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction near the Pul Bhalka area of Uch Sharif, according to one of the injured passengers, Amanullah.

Eight people were killed on the spot, while another two succumbed to their injuries later on. Five of the dead belonged to Abbottabad district. The casualties were ferried to different hospitals of Bahawalpur and Muzaffargarh districts.

The bus was reduced to a heap of mangled metal due to the impact of the accident. And rescuers had to cut parts of the bus to retrieve the bodies and the injured passengers.

The Uch Sharif police registered an FIR against the bus driver who managed to escape from the scene. Several lives were saved as local residents and Rescue 1122 officials reached the spot on time and shifted the injured to hospital.
