Show me the money: Around 48 K-P lawmakers miss ECP deadline

PESHAWAR:

Most politicians claim they have nothing to hide, but it seems few have things to declare in the first place.

At least 48 members of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, including Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak, are yet to submit their annual declarations of assets and liabilities to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), sources told The Express Tribune. The deadline to file the details was September 30.

Those from other political parties include seven members of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), four from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and three each from the PPP, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP), Awami Jamhoori Ittehad (AJIP). There was also one MPA each from Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and ANP that hadn’t filed by the given deadline.

Treasury benches

Apart from Khattak, JI Ameer Sirajul Haq and AJIP’s Abdul Munim, Babar Khan and Khatoon Bibi have also not filed their annual declaration of assets.

The following 26 PTI members have also not submitted their declaration: MPAs Ziaullah Afridi, Shaukat Yousafzai, Javed Nasim, Yasin Khalil, Fazl Elahi, Arbab Jehandad, Mohammad Ishtiaq, Mohammad Idrees, Qurban Ali, Mohammad Arif, Mohamamd Zahid Durrani, Ubaidullah Mayar, Amjad Afridi, Sardar Idress, Akbar Ayub, Samiullah, Ikramullah Gandapur, Shah Mohammad, Fazl Hakeem, Dr Haider Ali Khan, Gul Sahib Khan, Naseem Hayat, Maliha Tanveer, Nargis and Fauzia Bibi.

Opposition

Another name which stands out is K-P Assembly opposition leader Maulana Lutfur Rehman from JUI-F. Fazle Shakoor, Mufti Fazal Ghafoor and Uzma Khan from the JUI-F have also not submitted their annual declarations. Those among the QWP include Sultan Mohammad Khan, Ibrar Hussain and Begum Miraj Humayun Khan.

The list also includes PPP’s Sardar Hussain, Nighat Orakzai and Fakhr Azam Wazir, and ANP’s Ahmed Khan Bahadur.

Insiders also provided the names of seven PML-N members. Among them were Arbab Akbar Hayat, Mohammad Sheeraz, Raja Faisal Zaman, Mian Ziaur Rehman, Saleh Mohammad, Wali Mohammad Khan and Abdu Sattar.

An ECP official told The Express Tribune this was the status as of 12pm on Friday and was subject to change as filing was still in progress.
