In the pipeline: PDWP approves 19 development projects

Schemes will be completed at a cost of Rs7.96 billion

PESHAWAR: Around Rs7.96 billion will be spent on 19 development projects which were approved for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa at the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) meeting on Friday.

According to a handout, the PDWP meeting, chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Khalid Pervez, met to consider the approval of 29 development projects under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2014-2015. Nineteen projects were approved while 10 were deferred till the next meeting of the PDWP.

In order to expedite work on the new projects, ACS Pervez directed the departments to undertake work on sub-components/sub-projects of the development schemes in a planned manner and in accordance with the availability of funds.

The projects approved at the meeting include a feasibility study for the establishment of a carp hatchery at Swabi, improvement of water channels in K-P and sustainable agricultural development for food security in the province. The provision of stipends to girls in secondary schools, establishment of an independent monitoring unit in the health department and free need-based treatment for cancer patients are also among the 19 schemes approved on Friday.

Administrative secretaries and senior officials of the planning and development, finance, environment, construction and works, health, higher education, elementary and secondary education, irrigation, home and tribal affairs, transport, police and agriculture departments were in attendance.
