A three-day polio vaccination campaign which began in the district on September 29 has been extended for three more days so that more children can be immunised, said Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal.
The campaign will now run till October 4. “The health department wants to cover the maximum number of children in the ongoing campaign,” he said.
The EDO said the District Health Department, however, has initiated an internal evaluation of the ongoing campaign to overcome administrative problems the department has been facing. “I have informed DCO Sajid Zafar Dal about refusal cases and staff shortage issues,” he said, adding that the DCO directed that the drive be extended by three more days.
The EDO advised parents to come forward and play their role in ensuring vaccination of their children to eliminate the crippling disease.
