
The tournament was held under the auspices of Sports Education Trust in collaboration with Tesla Industries and the Rawalpindi City District Government.
Some 32 students of various boys and girls colleges from the city participated in competitions. In the final for boys, Shujat of PGC overcame his opponent Komel Abbas of the same college; both were awarded gold and silver medals respectively. Ishrat Fatima of Government Post Graduate College for Women took the gold medal by taking lead over her competitor from the same college, Amna Bashir.
While addressing the prize distribution ceremony, DCO Rawalpindi Sajid Zafar Dall said the Punjab government was giving full attention towards promotion of sports to attract youth. He underlined the need for promoting healthy activities, including sports, among the youth to make their bodies and brains healthy for education.
“All NGOs, philanthropists and individuals should come forward to shoulder their responsibilities with regard to enriching our youth’s bodies and mental health through sports so we could progress”, he added.
Tesla Industries GM Mubarak Hussain Haider admired the efforts of the Sports Education Trust and city government and said such activities should be broadened to reach more members of the youth for their engagement in healthy activities.
The DCO, Tesla Industries GM, PML-N MPA Mrs Tehseen Fawad, Sports Board Punjab Director Jalil Ahmed Chouhan and District Sports Officer Abdul Waheed Babar jointly gave away shields to the winners.
