Guilty verdict: Man sentenced to death in murder case

On Saturday, the court found Ashiq guilty and sentenced him to death and fined Rs300,000.

A court on Saturday sentenced a man to death for murdering another over money in 2007. The court acquitted three other accused in the case giving them the benefit of the doubt.


According to prosecution, Ashiq alias Achoo, Sabir, Shafi and Zafar had shot and killed Rafiq on August 4, 2007 after he refused to pay rent of a house. Khalil Ahmad, the brother of the deceased, lodged a murder case against the four in Nawankot police. The police took the four into custody and submitted their challan after an initial investigation. On Saturday, the court found Ashiq guilty and sentenced him to death and fined Rs300,000.

Narcotics case

An additional district and sessions judge on Saturday sentenced a man to 17 months in prison after finding him guilty of smuggling drugs. According to prosecution, Manawan police had raided a house on receiving a tip-off. They seized 2 kilograms narcotics from there and took him into custody.

After hearing the prosecution and the defence, the court found him guilty as charged. He was also fined Rs20,000.
