Khan, while addressing a press conference, offered to step aside from the test squad after being axed for next month's one-day series against Australia in the United Arab Emirates.
Younus, 36, was recalled to the 50-over side for the August ODI series in Sri Lanka and played in the first game before returning home due to the death of his nephew.
"I played just one match and returned home due to the death of my nephew. So on what basis the selectors have dropped me or say I am not fit for this format?" Younus told reporters.
Younus, who has played 91 tests and 254 One Day Internationals, said he was ready to vacate his place in the test side as well if the selectors were serious about rebuilding the side.
"But what happens if they are not able to do this? Then will they be sacked?" he asked.
Chief selector Moin Khan had earlier said Pakistan were looking at fresh talents ahead of next year's World Cup but Younus would be considered for the test matches against Australia.
"I have always played with respect and pride for Pakistan. But I don’t like the way they have treated a senior player. If they had called me and told me that they wanted me only for the tests I would have agreed," Younus said.
"If they had told me play one match and retire I would have done that."
Younus said he still wanted to play in the World Cup as he was fit and in form. Younus said greats like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Javed Miandad were also treated badly and shunned out forcibly.
"What hurts me is that Moin himself was a victim of this culture."
"After serving Pakistan for 14-15 years, he was still being treated unjustly," said Khan, adding that selectors should have informed him of being selected for the last time in the series against Sri Lanka

Now this will be a wise decision to step aside. There comes a time when you walk into the sunset of your career with dignity and self respect . Go at the top of your game. Old men like Misbah Afridi and chair person of PCB are shadow of their long past prime, High time to go. Guide the young players to improve talent. Don't throw a temper tantrum like a three year old.which unfortunately is true of lot of older players.
For people talking about fresh blood, what about Afridi, Misbah and Hafeez? They are all riding their lucks. I think Younis would have been an asset for the world cup given his experience. A alot of our younger players are looking at stats. and not realizing that two of the best Pakistani batsmen before world cup had low averages.
Let us hope our super fit Afridi would more than compensate the absence of Y. Khan. Afridi has always been most dependable, polished, considerate and a true leader who has no ego at all. It is not the age but the performance and fitness that are most imp in most countries but not in Pakistan. Y. Khan was the last of the classy cricketer in our team. The exclusion of YK from the team would increase pressure on Misbah and that way we would then get rid of Misbah also and leave the team entirely depending upon Afridi and Akmal brothers.
I would definitely want Younis Khan to play in the test team, but the time has come for the management to groom new players in the team. Younis Khan has had enough chances to cement his place in the ODI team, therefore, I don't fully agree with his reaction.

Younus your time is over, Now give chance to fresh blood.
@Shahid: well, actually one day pitches are quite flat and we have Fawad Alam in the team. So, Pakistan will last 50 overs with Younus Khan.
I have lost respect for Younus Khan. He should have gracefully accepted being dropped from the ODI team. If Younus Khan was a true team player, he would have paved the way for a new younger player in the one day format. Very disappointing behavior from Younus Khan.
Mark my words, without YK, current Pakistani team is not going to last 50 overs in any match in Australia.
When our greatest cricketer has no discipline and respect for others, expecting from other dwarfs is stupid.
Instead of slamming PCB you ought to be slamming sixes.
Younus exposed him self. He is comparing him self with greats like Wasim, Waqar, Miandad. please see your ODI batting average: it is in low 30's.!!! Pakistan can not be made a home of Older buddies like Misbah and Younus....
What a silly response from PCB! when you announce it on national Media and you expect a self respecting man to whisper in Shaharyar's ear?
