PESHAWAR: A provincial assembly member of the Awami National Party (ANP) was arrested after a bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) cancelled his bail in a murder case on Friday.

MPA Shakil Bashir Umerzai was on bail in the murder case of Pakistan Peoples Party-Sherpao’s (PPP-S) leader Alamzeb Umerzai.

On Friday, when the single-member bench of the PHC headed by Justice Pir Liaquat Ali Shah took up a plea for the cancellation of Shakeel’s bail, the counsel appearing on behalf of Alamzeb said that Shakeel was directly nominated in the FIR.

However, the sessions court has accepted his application and released him on bail. He urged the court to cancel Shakeel’s bail application.

Shakeel’s lawyer urged the court to uphold the sessions court’s decision. After hearing both sides, the court accepted the appeal for cancelling Sahkeel’s bail. Police arrested the lawmaker as soon as the bail was cancelled.
