SHANGLA: Heavy downpour and hailstorm caused some destruction in different parts of Shangla on Wednesday, confirmed an official of the Peshawar meteorological department.

The official said a rain storm hit the district on Tuesday night and rainfall continued till the early hours of Wednesday.

He explained acres of corn crops along with hundreds of fruit trees and orchards were ruined by the rains. Multiple houses in Alpuri, Chakesar, Shah Pur, Damorai, Poran, Bailay Baba, and Karora were partially destroyed.

The official also said flash floods also occurred when Khan Khwar River overflowed and the water entered orchards situated on its banks.

In August, a father and son were killed and a minor girl sustained injuries in Damorai when they fell off a wooden bridge they were attempting to cross during a storm. The bodies were fished out of the river later and the girl was shifted to a hospital.
