A woman in distress told the media on Saturday that she was facing death threats for seeking her share from the property of her late husband.
Rabia Jan Mohammad, a resident of Karachi’s Malir Cantt Gulshan-e-Umair area, appealed for the protection of herself and her son at a press conference in Karachi Press Club. Rabia said she married Jan Mohammad in 2005, who died four years later in 2009. “Within a few days of my husband’s death, his relatives started pressurising me to leave the house and when I refused they threatened me with dire consequences and even beat me,” she said. She finally left her husband’s house to protect her son.
The widow said that her husband’s property included a house, a car, plots, cash in the bank and some other possessions. “The property of Jan Mohammad belongs to his wife and his son, but we are being denied this right,” she said.
Rabia said that she has filed a case in the court which is under hearing. “My late husband’s brother and his son are threatening to kill my son if I do not withdraw the case,” Rabia alleged.
The widow appealed to the government to provide protection to her and her son and grant her due right over the assets of her late husband.
