PESHAWAR:

IDPs have accused the police and customs officials of illegally impounding their vehicles despite the fact the army had issued vouchers to allow them to travel freely.

This was stated by North Waziristan’s tribal elders who held a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday. They included Malak Zafarullah Wazir, Shaukat Khan Wazir, Naimatullah and Malak Musa Khan.

The elders said when the Pakistan Army announced Operation Zarb-e-Azb, they left their homes for the sake of peace in the country. They added the army issued vouchers for their vehicles in Bannu so they could travel freely, but the police stopped them for checking on a daily basis and made their lives miserable.

The tribesmen revealed 15 of their vehicles had been seized by the customs department and three by the police, adding people onboard were offloaded and left by the roadside.
