Maid raped by two, case registered

Girl’s family claims police reluctant to take action against accused.

FAISALABAD: Police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly raping a maid in Chistiana, Toba Tek Singh.

Zulfiqar, the girl’s father, told The Express Tribune that his daughter worked at the house of Muhammad Saeed, a resident of Chak 405-JB. “Saeed’s son Zeeshan and his friend Nadeem raped the girl multiple times over a period of seven months. They warned her against disclosing their crime to anyone,” he said.

Zulfiqar said that the girl became pregnant and told her family about the assaults. “When she became pregnant, Zeeshan and Nadeem tried to take her to a hospital for abortion.

She then told us about what had happened,” he said.

He said that he had registered a complaint with the police, but they were reluctant to take action against the accused. “Zeeshan is the nephew of an MPA. The police did not arrest him and allowed him to escape abroad. They are now also pressuring us to reach a compromise with Zeeshan’s family and withdraw the complaint,” he said.

The Chitiana SHO said that police had registered a case and had taken Nadeem into custody.
