LAHORE:

Lahore High Court on Monday sought replies from Law Minister Rana Mashhood, the inspector general of police (IGP) and the capital city police officer (CCPO) on a contempt of court petition.

They are accused of detaining some Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers in violation of a court’s order.

The petitioner said the Lahore High Court had restrained police from arresting PAT and PTI workers but the government had flouted the court’s order and launched a crackdown against them.

He said several PTI and PAT workers had been illegally apprehended in prisons across the province.

He said Mashhood, IGP Mushtaq Sukhera, CCPO Amin Wains and DIG (Operations) Haider Ashraf had ordered the arrest of political workers. Justice Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah then sought replies on the petition by September 18.
