LHC takes notice of unscheduled loadshedding

Express April 19, 2010

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) to stop unscheduled loadshedding on Monday.

The court gave its verdict on a petition filed by barrister Farooq Hassan.

The petitioner argued that unscheduled loadshedding is adding to the sufferings of the people, adding that the minister for water and power should be removed from his office.

The petition notes that the government had assured the court that there would be no loadshedding after 31st of December 2009. As the government has been unable to fulfill its promise it should be held in the contempt of court.

The hearing has been adjourned till May 18th.

Pepco has been ordered to submit a record of scheduled and unscheduled loadshedding.
