FAISALABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) sent MPA Rana Shoaib Idrees and one of his accomplices to jail on Wednesday.

The physical remand of six other men, nominated in the same case, was extended for two more days.

The MPA had been in the custody of Khurarianwala police on physical remand since September 4.

Idrees and seven other men, face charges of attacking the Khurarianwala police station and assaulting policemen on July 18, 2014. After registration of the case, the MPA had obtained protective bail from Lahore High Court until August 28. A bail was granted by the ATC on August 28. On September 4, however, the court refused to extend it.

On September 5, the court granted three-day physical remand of the MPA and his accomplices.

The remand was later extended for two more days on the police’s request. On Wednesday, the MPA and the seven other men were brought before the ATC on the expiry of their physical remand.

The police once again sought more time to interrogate them. However, judge Ishtiaq Ahmad sent Idrees and Zakariya to jail. The physical remand of the remaining suspects was extended by two days.
