LAHORE:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab president Manzoor Wattoo said on Wednesday that the government would fall if the party stopped supporting it.

He was speaking to journalists. Wattoo said the government should provide safe passage to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Tahirul Qadri to defuse the political situation. He said his party was committed to protecting democracy, ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution and upholding the rule of law.

Wattoo said if the government did fall it would only be due to its own follies.

He said using unconstitutional measures to bring political change lacked popular support. Wattoo said onus for recent floods rested with the ruling party as it had been in power in the province for three decades.

Wattoo said the government had failed to implement the 2010 Flood Commission report and was responsible for loss of life and property in the floods.
