Appointments: Ghulam Hyder Jamali becomes IGP Sindh

Ghulam Hyder Jamali becomes IGP Sindh

Our Correspondent September 10, 2014

KARACHI:

After serving two months as the ‘acting’ IGP Sindh, Ghulam Hyder Jamali, has finally been made chief of the provincial police on Wednesday.

Jamali, a grade-21 officer, was acting IGP of the province since July 7, after Iqbal Mehmood was relieved of the post after a three-month stint. Mehmood had left the charge of the IGP Sindh of his own volition as there was a rift between the former IGP and some officials of the Sindh government over the procurement of armoured personnel carriers (APCs) for the Sindh police.  Jamali is one of the most senior officers of the police department. He has also served as additional IG Sindh in the past. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved his appointment but the question remains if Jamali will decide to go ahead with the APC purchase.
