Neighbourhood watch: Police launch project to rid Faisalabad of crime

Citizens briefed about using gadgets to deter crime.

FAISALABAD: City Police Officer (CPO) Sohail Tajik said on Tuesday that police had launched a safe city project to rid Faisalabad of crime.

Tajik said community policing had been started as part of the initiative. He was speaking at a ceremony held in Kutchery Bazaar Jamia Masjid to mark the commencement of the initiative.  Scores of traders, industrialists and religious scholars were present on the occasion.

Information Technology experts and project officials gave them tips regarding keeping their premises and businesses secure. They briefed them about using latest gadgets to deter crime. They were also informed about the vibration alert system and were trained to use an alarm system that is capable of automatically intimating police and their dear ones in case of an emergency.

The buttons of the system are installed at confidential locations to ensure that information is effectively transmitted to police and well-wishers in case of an emergency.

The system also transmits the coordinates of the emergency to authorities concerned by enabling Rescue 15 to remedy the situation and forwarding details to the city police officer, operations senior superintendent and the station house officer of the area.

Tajik said the public had responded to the initiative positively and had asked police to provide them with the gadgets. He said police would establish a special display centre at the Rescue 15 office to exhibit the devices. Tajik said the public could purchase the gadgets from there at discounted rates.
