City Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajak said on Sunday a committee by set up him had reported that security arrangements at 131 of 437 bank buildings it examined needed improvements.
He said the committee had submitted its report on Saturday. He said it had stressed on the need for revamping security at many banks as soon as possible.
He said the committee was supervised by SP Maryam Naheed.
He said the team had evolved criteria for low, medium and high security and had evaluated banks on the number of CCTV cameras, guards, locks and alarms at their premises.
He said many CCTV cameras were found broken and alarms out of order.
He said some banks with poor security were located at Jinnah Colony, Circular Road, Liaqat Road, Kutchehry Bazaar, Saddar Bazaar, D-ground and Tata Bazaar.
The CPO urged bank managers to adopt strict the arrangements defined in standard operating procedures issued by the police.
He said if they did not improve security, police would consider legal action against them under the Shops and Security Ordinance. He said further checks would be held on these branches.
