The Defence Day was observed with traditional zeal and fervour in the district on Saturday. A ceremony was held to pay tribute to defence forces personnel martyred in the 1965 war.
The district administration and the Nazria Pakistan Forum arranged the ceremony at the Gulam Muhammadabad graveyard.
DCO Noorul Amin Mengal, Agriculture Secretary Ali Tahir, Shaikh Bashir Ahmad, Mian Abdul Kareem, Chaudhry Muhammad Asghar, Shaikh Khalid Parvez, Mehmood Alam, Arshid Qasir, Qayyum Anwar and several representatives of civil society laid floral wreaths on the martyrs’ graves. Fateha were also offered for the departed souls.
Speaking on the occasion, Mengal said that the Pakistani forces had courageously protected the borders of the motherland in the 1965 war against India. “The martyrs’ sacrifices for their country will never be forgotten. We are gathered here to show that the nation respects and honours their services,” the DCO said.
A national songs competition was held at the Faisalabad Arts Council in connection with the Defence Day.
A play was also performed at the arts council to highlight the sacrifices rendered by armed forces.
Banners carrying slogans in favour of the Pakistan Army were also displayed on city roads and intersections by the district administration to mark the Defence Day.
