QUETTA:

Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch on Friday called parliament “the first and only umpire” for democratic forces, indicating that people should only expect to find solutions within the august body.

Speaking to reporters after distributing prize money among gold medalists of Islamia College in Quetta on Thursday, the chief minister said that parliament is the panacea for all democratic forces.

“I don’t know who the third umpire is? I do believe in a parliamentary form of government. The democratic system is in the best interest of the country, its federation and people. We support democracy because it is the only way to address the problems,” he said.

The ruling National Party (NP) had already stated that it will stand by the federal government, the chief minister added.

Earlier, addressing the students, Malik Baloch said the state of education is not satisfactory across the country. “We need more resources to improve the education system in Balochistan. The government has increased the budget but still it is not enough as more steps are desperately needed,” he said.

He announced two million rupees and a bus for Islamia Girls’ and Boys’ college Quetta. Provincial ministers and officials were also present at the occasion.
