Crackdown: Cases registered against hundreds of PTI workers

Seven PTI workers taken into custody for violating Section 144

Police registered cases against hundreds of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) workers on Thursday in various districts of southern Punjab for violating Section 144 that forbids the assembly of more than five persons. Seven party leaders were also taken into custody.


In Rahim Yar Khan, police registered a case against Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal Waraich and 85 other PTI workers. They had taken out a protest rally on Tuesday (September 2).

PTI worker Muhammad Ali was arrested from Niazi Colony and Muhammad Salman from Jinnah Park. They have been locked up in B Division police station.

In Khanpur tehsil, three PTI workers were put under house arrest for 15 days.

Police also arrested Misbahullah Khan, Dr Abdul Ghaffar, Usman Ahmad and Muhammad Husnain. Muhammad Faheem, another PTI leader, was released after he signed an undertaking not to take part in any anti-government activity.

In Ahmadpur East, police raided the house of PTI’s tehsil president Abdul Basit Shukrani and arrested him.

In Hasilpur, police registered cases against 90 unidentified and six nominated PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers.

In Bahawalpur, police registered cases against Mian Nabeelur Rehman, Farzand Ali Goher, Malik Asghar Joyia, Sheikh Mehmood, Mirza Rizwan Baig and 14 other PTI workers.
