Ashura clashes: Reconstruction work under way

A member of the damage assessment committee of the Raja Bazaar incident, Sharjeel Mir, has said 30 per cent work on the reconstruction of the affected mosque, seminary and shops has been completed.  


“Construction work is in full swing and the contractor has so far completed 30 per cent of work at the site,” Mir said on Monday.


He said the civic bodies including the Water and Sanitation Agency, Islamabad Electric Supply Company and Town Municipal Administration are engaged to complete the work within the given time.


Meanwhile, District Coordination Officer Sajid Zafar Dall said construction work would be completed within three to four months.     He said the government has taken steps to resolve problems of traders in the aftermath of the incident.


Nine people were killed and several were injured when deadly clashes erupted between seminary students and mourners taking out Ashura processions in the heart of Rawalpindi.
