Japan pledges $209,370 for flood victims

The financial support, extended through Pakistan Red Crescent Society, is expected to help 3,800 families.

ISLAMABAD: Government of Japan has pledged to extend financial support of US$ 209,370 to Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) for supporting the flood affected people in Nowshera, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

An agreement in this regard was signed by Japanese Ambassador Chihiro Atsumi and Senator Nelfar Bakhtiar, PRCS chairperson, at the ambassador’s residence on Wednesday.

The grant will be utilized for supplying Food Packs of dry ration to deserving 3,800 families and about 30,000 individuals in the Union Councils of Nowshera Kalan and Mohib Bandi in Nowshera District, who have been badly affected by the recent flood.

Speaking at the occasion, Ambassador Atsumi appreciated the efforts of the PRCS and its volunteers for providing their services at the time of emergencies.

He stressed that the damage analysis of the disaster area was of great concern and enormous attention needs to be given for early recovery and rehabilitation. Ambassador Atsumi expressed his hope that the said project would help in improving the living conditions of the affected people.

He also hoped that the current emergency relief extended by the Govt of Japan would further strengthen the existing friendly relations between the people of Japan and Pakistan.
