Speaker of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly Asad Qaiser announced that the no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak submitted by opposition leaders in the provincial assembly has been sent to the law department.
Furthermore, he said that the summary for holding the assembly session will be sent to the K-P governor over the next couple of days.
Addressing a public rally in Marghuz, where people from other parties joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Qaiser insisted that the assembly operates on a series of customs and traditions which should be adhered to. He added that when such a crisis emerges, the speaker is expected to play a constructive role to pacify the stakeholders.
“Although the no-confidence vote against the CM is the legal right of the opposition parties, the members of the assembly must respect each other,” Qaiser said, adding that all legal procedures must be complied with.
According to the speaker, a similar situation had emerged in the past as well. The only solution is to facilitate negotiations between the government and opposition to avoid further clashes between the stakeholders.
“Once again, I will try to uphold the customs and norms of the assembly and preserve a sense of unity,” he said.
As a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Qaiser claimed that it is his party’s prime duty to redress the difficulties of the people. The speaker insisted that a chain of progress and prosperity will emerge in the district once the vicious cycle of deprivation is broken.
