The anti-corruption department has arrested an additional deputy commissioner over charges of corruption pertaining to the sale of government land in Hyderabad.
Muatassim Abbasi, who is currently posted in Tando Allahyar district, has been sent on a nine-day physical remand by the anti-corruption court on Saturday. Abbasi, according to inspector Chaudhry Pervez Akhtar, was arrested from his office in Tando Allahyar on Friday on the directives of the anti-corruption chairperson Ghulam Hyder Jamali.
He is accused of selling 10 acres in Qasimabad tehsil in 2011 when he was deputy district officer (DDO) of Qasimabad. The land was purchased much below the market rate by a builder, Ayaz Tunio. A housing scheme, Lab-i-Mehran, was launched at the piece of land.
A sub-registrar and three tapedars of the revenue department and some officers of Hyderabad Development Authority and Building Control Authority have also been nominated in the FIR registered at Qasimabad police station. The inspector said they were conducting raids to arrest all the accused. They are accused of conniving in the scam.
Qasimabad has been witnessing a property boom for the last 15 years, courtesy the continuous migration of wealthy people from the rural districts of Sindh. Hundreds of acres of agricultural land have been converted into urban property to provide land for real estate development.
