SHO Abdul Khaliq said that Syed Muhammad Farooq Shah, a resident of Malir Halt, called him from different numbers claiming to be the Sindh Rangers director-general and sometimes a Sindh Rangers major. He asked the SHO to change the investigation officer (IO) in a drug peddling case.
"We arrested a drug peddler, Razia, from Green Town two days ago," said Khaliq. "This man was pressuring me to change the IO in Razia's case."
Khaliq smelled a rat and asked the man to meet him at the police station. "He said that he will send his man to the police station and, when the man came, I recognised his voice and arrested him."
Later, Shah confessed and the police even recovered a Rangers uniform from his custody. He was sent to jail by the court. He has no connection with the Rangers and is a cloth merchant hailing from Bahawalpur.
"I don't know why he was asking me to change the IO in Razia's case," said Khaliq. "Maybe he is also involved in the business with her. Nonetheless, we are investigating the case."
